Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is on Time Magazine’s list of the world’s most influential people in 2022.
The president, who has become world famous after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, is described by US President Joe Biden as a leader worthy of the courage and resistance of Ukrainians.
“Nations of the free world, inspired by President Zelensky’s example, are more united, more determined and more determined than at any time in recent history,” Biden wrote.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is also on the list.
It is one of Putin’s foremost critics, Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, who is currently serving a sentence in a penal camp writing about Putin:
“He reminded us once again that what starts with “a little bit of electoral fraud” always leads to dictatorship. Dictatorship always leads to war. It’s a lesson we shouldn’t have forgotten.«
According to Edward Felsenthal, Editor-in-chief and chief executive officer of Time Magazine, the fact that both Putin and Zelensky are on the list is an expression of the fact that influence can be many things.
“The spectrum of ways in which influence can be applied has never been more clear than on this year’s Time 100.).«
“The dictator of a brutal war and the Ukrainian president, a rare heroic figure in this time of division,” he tweeted.
Other political figures such as the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, are also on the list.
At the more pop-cultural end of the list are names like singer Adele, actress Zendaya and talk show icon Oprah Winfrey.
Time Magazine has published the list of the world’s 100 Most Influential People since 1999, according to the news agency dpa.
